MTM Unveils Audi S8 Talladega With 760 HP

At least for this generation of A8, there won't be any hardcore RS8 model to battle the likes of the S63 AMG. However, for people with deep enough pockets and a taste for the aftermarket, there appears to be a solution, the S8 Talladega by German tuner MTM.

There will only be 25 of these mean machines put together for the princely sum of $189,700. They celebrate the achievement of Bobby "Cars with heritage have the brightest future!” according to Roland Mayer, Managing Director of MTM GmbH. And this one is built to celebrate the fact that on 24 March 1986 an Audi 5000 CS Turbo was unleashed on the Talladega Speedway in Alabama and reached op speed of more than 219 mph (350 km/h).

Right, back to the present where Audi's 4-liter twin-turbo V8 gets pushed from its stock output of 520 HP to 760 HP (559 kW) while torque is increased from 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) to 945 Nm (697 lb-ft). That's more than any current Audi in production. Heck, its more than an AMG or even a Lamborghini Huracan.

As you can tell, the S8 has had a few other tweaks mode other than those involving the engine. A set of 21-inch Bimoto wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires measuring 295/30 have been installed, as well as a set of aero parts for the front and rear bumpers.

In pure performance numbers, the 760 HP version of the S8 is predictably impressive. 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes only 3.48 seconds and 200 km/h (124 mph) is reached in only 10.51 seconds. Top speed? 202 mph (325 km/h), electronically limited to stop your tires from exploding.

“Configured for fast laps on the Nardo Ring, exceeding 217 mph would be no problem”, says Roland Mayer, spelling out the extreme potential of the MTM S8 Talladega.

But how has an Audi come to cost nearly €190,000? MTM started with the base S8 which is €115,000 and added their 240 PS power boost, which at €35,000 is no basic update. The wheels and tires are another €6,300, plus €2,200 for the lowering air suspension module. As for the carbon fiber bits, well they cost another €15,000. The brightside is that very few other cars like this exist in the world, which is more than we can say about the S63 AMG.
