As a fan of every car with a 5-cylinder turbo engine, I am seriously upset with German tuners MTM because they did something amazing and didn't film it. I mean, it's not every day that a brand new RS3 manages to exceed 300 kilometers per hour.
In stock form, the new RS3 is equipped with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged engine that gets exactly 367 horsepower. As you may already know, when launch control is engaged, those ponies move the quattro AWD and 7-speed gearbox to push the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. But we're more concerned with the top speed here, which is limited to 250 km/h in stock form and 280 km/h if you buy a special performance pack with different tires.
Anyway, the RS3 is the most powerful car currently derived from VW group's MQB platform, so it's the ideal candidate for some engine mods. MTM has presented its basic upgrade package for the RS3 8V, one which we expect to see pretty soon at the Essen Motor Show.
It takes the output of the engine from 367 hp to 435 hp and a meaty 605 Nm of torque. And that's only the start because MTM has a 500 horsepower RS3 currently undergoing shake-down trials.
“The 5-cyclinder Audi motor is an excellent basis on which to add more power…” according to MTM CEO Roland Mayer, “...and we are developing versions with further power and torque gains.”
But what you really need to take away from this story is that you can go to these Audi experts with €3,005 in hand and leave with a small 5-door hatchback that can do 303 km/h (188 mph). In addition, the car will now accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds and reach 200 km/h in 14 seconds.
Also, they offer other accessories for your new hyper hatch, such as Nardo wheels (€2,900), uprated brakes (€3,490), high-flow cat-back exhausts (€4,250) and re-designed carbon spoilers and diffusers. If you want to go full-retard, the RS3 can even be fitted with carbon fiber seats that look as uncomfortable as those in the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento.
