MV Agusta Eyes Entering the Indian Market with Former Partner Kinetic

It's no secret that the Indian motorcycle market is an El Dorado for motorcycle manufacturers, and many big names have more or less recently become interested in selling their bikes in India. It's apparently MV Agusta's turn to consider making a bold move on Indian soil.

The rumors have not been confirmed yet, but local media reports that both the house of Schiranna and Kinetic India have showed an increased interest in a potential joint effort to sell MV Agusta motorcycles in India.

MV Agusta is credited to establish new relationships with their former partner Kinetic India, though so far the deal would most likely be limited to simply selling Italian motorcycles and taking care of the aftersale services.

Kinetic India designed the frame and the engine of the Cagiva Mito 125

As mentioned before, Kinetic and MV Agusta have a common past, though it involves Cagiva, autocarindia reports. Kinetic has been working with Cagiva and manufactured the engine and the frame for the Mito 125 bikes that sold both in Europe and Asia in the '90s and the first decade of the 21st century.

Given the past collaboration between the two brands, a tie-up certainly looks like a very likely future. If the CBU (completely built unit) sales in India turn out to be encouraging, we might even see MV Agusta expanding their presence in this region with CKD (complete knockdown) operations.

After all, Harley-Davidson, BMW, Triumph or KTM are doing a great job this way, and we see no impediment for MV Agusta to follow their example. CKD versions of their 800cc range would be priced much more competitively in India and could also be exported for lower prices in other countries in the region.

The move would also be consistent with MV Agusta's recent development plans, after having AMG buying a 25% stock minority and securing further financing from other investors. Another recent rumor sees MV Agusta allegedly planning to revive Cagiva as an off-road brand. Is MV Agusta becoming the new rising star in the premium motorcycle segment? It might just very well be so, so stay tuned for more.
