For a long number of years now, luxury Italian brand Maserati was always overshadowed in every possible way by Ferrari, the biggest name in the business. Nevertheless, for the first time ever since the two became sister companies, the House of the Trident trumped the Prancing Horse in terms of profit.
Of course, Maserati S.p.A. always produced more vehicles per year than Fezza. To boot, most of the Maserati lineup is four-doored and costs less than what the jewel brand of the Fiat-Chrysler Group is selling nowadays, but still, this is an incredible feat.

According to third-quarter financial figures recently released by the Italo-American consortium, there's a 1 million euro gap between the two automakers' Q3 operating profit.

€90 million for Maserati versus €89 million for Ferrari between July and September of 2014

Compared to the same period last year, Maserati more than doubled its profitability (43 million euros during Q3 2013), while Ferrari S.p.A. returned 89 million. According to analysts, Ferrari could have been much better in terms of operating profit if it weren't for Luca di Montezemolo's resignation scandal.

To make an idea how the Prancing Horse's coffer was affected by Luca di Montezemolo's leave, just take into consideration the man will receive 13.25 million euros by January 31st, 2015 in severance pay.

Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles NV's financial report tells that Ferrari sold 5,280 cars during the first nine months of the year (1 percent down compared to last year), while Maserati's volume tripled to 26,428 cars compared to the 7,548 it sold in the same period from 2013. Not bad Maserati, not bad at all!
