Maybe we think of the 2003 superhero film The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen because it marked Sean Connery’s last leading film role and on-screen film appearance before his retirement. Or maybe we read too much of Jules Verne as we grew up. Whatever it is, this yacht makes us feel like one of the fictional characters from the 19th century only that we’re somehow from the future. And so is this exclusive watercraft.
In case you hadn't read the books and didn’t get the chance to watch the movie either, we’ll break the mystery. Nautilus is the fictional submarine captained by Nemo, one of Jules Verne’s characters who is present in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and The Mysterious Island novels. It’s described as “a masterpiece containing masterpieces”.

The craft’s primary power source for propulsion came from electricity provided by sodium/mercury batteries. Nautilus is double-hulled and is further separated into water-tight compartments. Apart from its impressive construction, this fictional vessel was able to reach a top speed of 50 knots.

Now, getting back to our own Nautilus here, which is in fact called Maximus, there are not a lot of similarities between the two other than the front shape. Created by Florida-based design studio Facheris Design, this luxury mega yacht concept combines minimalism and extravagance.

Open deck, perfect view

The lower profile is what makes the elongated line possible while an open deck offers the clean feel. Passengers can walk from the stern to the bow in the open air that implies unlimited views from every angle and are of the deck. Lightweight materials and environmentally consciousness create the basis of this craft.

According to Charter World, Maximus is powered by a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system, which minimizes sound. A solar energy panel integrated into the superstructure, and an artificial deck sole make the yacht worthy of future’s top notch crafts.

Ten guests will be accommodated in apartments that range from 400 to 800 square feet (37 to 74 square meters) and are designed with an open loft feel. Each residence has a galley, salon, and personal gym.

Will it ever reach the sea? Well, it most likely will, but unfortunately we have no precise date for when that’s going to happen.
