Mazda just announced that the North America-bound MX-5 Miata production kicked off today, the first 1,000 models ever to be made and sold being marketed as Launch Edition versions. That means that the first Miatas will be delivered in just a couple of weeks.
The MX-5 Miata Launch Edition versions will bring a unique combination for their owners, only 1,000 of them being made. According to the Japanese company, all of them will be wearing unique badging and will have features that can’t be had on other versions.

Advanced Keyless entry will be standard on this initial run of 1,000 units as well as Soul Red paint on the outside, combined with a Sport Tan leather interior. That might seem uninteresting but you can’t buy a Miata in that combo normally.

Other standard features include 17” bright alloy wheels, leather-trimmed heated seats, automatic climate control, BOSE nine-speaker audio system, AM/FM/HD/SiriusXM radio, MAZDA CONNECT with a seven-inch touchscreen monitor, commander control knob, Homelink garage door opener, rain-sensing wipers and adaptive headlights.

In order to get one, you have to pre-register online and you will receive a reminder on May 5, when ordering books will be opened. You will then be able to go down to your local dealership and place a deposit for one of them. However, only a select few dealerships will get be getting the car so you might want to check out if you’re near one.

The starting price for a normal MX-5 is $24,915 MSRP and that’s for the Sport model. Standard features include 16” wheels and a 6-speed Skyactiv manual transmission as well as cruise control, LED headlights and taillights, Bluetooth phone pairing and audio streaming.

The MX-5 Club version will set you back $28,600 MSRP and adds 17-inch gunmetal wheels to the mix, a front air dam and trunk lip spoiler, piano black seat backs and mirror caps as well as Mazda’s Connect system with a 7” touchscreen.

Other interesting tidbits for the Club version include satellite radio with a nine-speaker BOSE audio system, a limited-slip rear differential, Bilstein shocks and shock-tower brace (standard when equipped with the manual transmission).
