Mazda Brought a Bike and a Sofa to 2015 Milan Design Week

If by any chance you’re visiting Milan these days, you might want to stop by the Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano. It's the Italian name for one of the world’s most prestigious furniture fairs. Not because you are a carpenter, a hand-made wardrobe craftsman or the representative of Ikea US. It’s because you might stumble upon automakers’ booth too. In fact, you’ll most likely find most of the car manufacturers in the industry showcasing furniture.

The world renown fair has dropped its flag yesterday and runs through April 19. One of the automotive companies present at the fair is Mazda. The Japanese corporation has chosen two “Soul of Motion” inspired creations to showcase at its recently opened Mazda Design Space in the Brera Design District Fuorisalone.

According to Mazda’s press release you can check out below, the Bike and Sofa by KODO Concept are there to exemplify the carmaker’s philosophy: the foundation for its line-up, including the all-new CX-3 and MX-5. Both creations emulate the dynamic beauty of wild animals’ movement, effortless and powerful.

The two-wheeler was designed following the principle "less is more", while it reimagines the modern racing bicycle. The Sofa by KODO Concept employs a similar premise, conceptualizing the intrinsic beauty found in the balance between form and function.

It’s not quite clear if any of Mazda’s concepts will ever hit the market, but we figured it was worth mentioning since the design is quite impressive.
