When Mercedes-Benz unveiled the smaller brother of the iconic G63 AMG 6x6 model we were rather surprised. That’s because the 4x4 didn’t come with the same engine as its AMG brother. Instead, Mercedes decided to fit it with the same mill from the G500 model.
Don’t get us wrong, the 4-liter V8 with its two turbochargers and 422 HP is enough for any car out there, especially considering its 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) of torque but maybe some customers wanted the full 5.5-liter V8 mill of the G63.
Well, the guys from Mcchip seem to have a solution that not only brings the bigger engine to the mix but also even more power than the standard 6x6. That’s because they swapped the standard engine with one of their own versions of the 5.5-liter V8 from the G63.
Named MC800, their upgraded mill has new turbochargers, a custom exhaust with sport cats, steel connecting rods and a special ECU map developed by Mcchip DKR themselves. The end result is an engine that makes that makes 820 HP and 950 to 1,000 Nm (700 - 737 lb-ft) of torque.
For the kit to be complete, the standard G-Wagon they used for the transformation also received a new KW DDC suspension, raised axles as well as wheels and tires from the 6x6 model. With a lot more power at its disposal and less weight to carry around, a battle between the two wouldn’t be a fair fight.
