McLaren 675LT Heading for Geneva Motor Show

While the petrolhead world awaits the Macca boys to debut the heavily-anticipated McLaren Sports Series / P13 / 5xxS entry-level supercar, the Brits teased an epic P1 GTR track monster ahead of its Geneva Motor Show unveiling. As if those weren’t enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, the Woking-based brand has another surprise for you.

Great Britain’s AutoCar were informed that a 666 bhp McLaren 675LT is also coming to Geneva in March, bridging the gap between the entry-level 650S and the impressive P1 hybrid hypercar. The name is not official, but Macca detailed that it’s a little bit “more powerful and track-focused” than the 650S. And yes, that above is the prototype.

A curious detail about that teaser pic is the camo markings it wears - the swirly print depicts a lot of McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail (1997) race cars, which makes this announcement even more intriguing for us car aficionados. Nothing is confirmed yet, but the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 is expected to power the beast with 675 PS, which equals to 666 bhp. As for performance, the previously mentioned publication suggest a 3-second 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint.

Likely to be a road legal machine, not an out-and-out track-only supercar, the McLaren 675LT may be lighter than the 650S as well, shedding around 100 kilograms over its forerunner. Reports suggest that only 250 examples will be made, with a track-only variant to follow sometime in the future. As for visual changes over the 650S, there are some cues borrowed from the GT3 racecar and new side air intakes positioned lower than the standard 650S’.

All that dieting, extra oomph, carbon fiber brakes and other go-faster bits and bobs will hike the UK sticker over the £200,000 mark, making the 675 LT significantly more expensive than the already very costly McLaren 650S Coupe. So, would you take one over an ordinary 650S, sacrificing ride quality and creature comforts over more performance?
