Yesterday we were shown the McLaren P1 GTR and F1 GTR duking it out on the race track. Today, McLaren upped the ante with yet another track-focused machine that's been baptized 675LT.
First thing you need to know is that what’re looking at is a lightened, more powerful and more aero-conscious 650S. It’s simple, right? Well, not quite. As it happens, engineers changed over 50 percent of the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 of the McLaren 650S.
This prompted McLaren to baptize the 675LT’s powerhouse with a unique code - M838TL. In total, this force-fed tower-of-power churns out 675 PS (666 bhp) at 7,100 rpm and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) between 5,500 and 6,500 rpm. It’s not that big a difference over the 650S’ motor, but it’s an improvement.
Thanks to a 1,230-kilo (2,711 lbs) dry weight, it all boils down to a 549 PS per tonne power-to-weight ratio, translating to 2.9 second to 100 km/h (62 mph), 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.9 clicks and a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph). We'll have to wait for the Geneva Motor Show to find out the price though.
Besides the redesigned exhaust exits, carbon fiber rear bumper, polycarbonate rear screen with louvres and the 675LT lettering inside the headlight clusters, the 675LT is also enhanced by an active rear spoiler that was baptized the Longtail Airbrake. Though it’s 50 percent bigger than the 650S’ Airbrake, the 675LT’s unit is lighter due to its carbon fiber structure. Not a bad way to pay homage to the iconic F1 GTR Longtail...
