The GT4 racing category seems to be McLaren's latest obsession, having just launched the 570S in New York and the 540C at Auto Shanghai.
You thought they were done? Well, not really, because McLaren are also eyeing Le Mans return. Speaking to Autocar, an unnamed senior source from McLaren suggested the Woking manufacturer has ambitions that would relate with Le Mans racing. However, until this moment, it looks more like a long-term commitment rather than a one to be done in the near future.

It is only natural for such a big-name entity in the automotive world to approach such things with caution. The public's sky-high expectations from the creators of the mighty McLaren F1 would put plenty of pressure to succeed and in order for that to happen, the right car must be developed.

Until Le Mans becomes a priority, McLaren is looking to make an entrance in the aforementioned GT4 racing class. In order to do so, Woking officials are planning to build a race version of the 570S Sport Series model.

And guess what? It would be a direct rival for Porsche's upcoming Cayman GT4 race version. Most likely, Mercedes-Benz won't just sit around counting daisies, despite the fact that their GT3 racing version is not yet on sale.

You know, it all looks really good on paper or when different ideas and plans are teased or hinted at with rumors. Of course, it's all down to who sells the largest number of cars, and a GT4 door open to potential customers might be a way of boosting sales, especially since GT3 racing category could become a nut too hard to crack for some drivers.
