The engineers in Affalterbach still have plenty of work to do until the street legal version of the Mercedes AMG GT3 racecar can actually come to the road, but we can be certain of one thing - the car will be a hell of a handler.
An excellent example of this comes from a recent testing session that saw the GT3 road car fly on the Nurburgring. No, really, the sportscar was actually sent flying over the vibrators.
As you’ll be able to see in the footage below, the driver of the Mercedes-AMG machine was so eager to leave behind a crossover he had just passed, that he cut a corner too aggressively.
The prototype went through a bit of a difficult test, with two wheels traveling on the grass and two on the road, but the thing was as stable as an arrow. Sure, it wasn’t quite a Silver Arrow, since the camo makes it more of a psychedelic one, but you catch our drift.
Still, the Karussell exit made by the car might mean the suspension needs a bit of extra tweaking.
A battle with Jaguar?
The crossover in question appears to be a Jaguar F-Pace, in which case we can easily understand the AMG driver’s determination to smoke dust the other car. As some of you remember, Jaguar started a little advertising fight with Mercedes-Benz back in 2013. The Germans did respond, but a bit of extra payback never hurts.
Nope, more like a fight with Porsche
Returning to the Mercedes AMG GT3 road car itself, this seems more like a gauntlet thrown in Porsche’s ring. The Zuffenhausen-targeting number plate of the AMG prototype we recently spied wasn’t present though. We’ll remind you that, for instance, Porsche is the reason for which Mercedes won’t use the GT3 moniker for the car, despite its racing origins.
And just in case you’re curios about the seemingly V8 soundtrack of the clip, the road-going version will skip the racecar’s SLS GT3-borrowed atmospheric 6.2-liter V8.
We’ll have plenty of time to discuss further details on that matter in the future though, since this Mercedes AMG iteration isn’t expected to arrive until 2016.
