The G65 AMG from Mercedes-Benz isn’t a brand new model, but the US market never had the possibility of purchasing one. Well, that ends this year as the Germans want to bring their most powerful version of the Geländewagen stateside.
However, there’s going to be a price to pay if you want a V12 instead of a V8 under the bonnet of your G-Wagon. Care to guess how much? $218,825. That’s a hefty increase over the price of the G63 model that is currently on sale in the US.

The more modest alternative (if you can call it that) costs ‘just’ $137,150. Therefore, the price difference between the two is a mind-boggling $81,675. Care to guess what you can buy with that money? A BMW M4, a Corvette C7 Stingray or even a 707 HP Dodge Charger Hellcat.

To better put things in perspective, think of it this way: $20,418 bucks per extra cylinder and nearly $10,000 per extra horsepower. Is that worth it? Well, to those that love the G-Wagon, it sure is.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait at least until November to get one because that’s when the first lots will reach US shores. Since the G65 is a very rare bird, you probably won’t get to see too many V12-powered beasts roaming the streets in the US.

As far as performance goes, you should know that the SUV does 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.3 seconds from a standstill and sips around 17 liters of gas per 100 km (13.8 mpg) on average. Those are numbers provided by Mercedes-Benz, expect the EPA to tell you otherwise.
