New Triumph Cafe-Racer Spied in Spain, 1,000cc Expected

A new retro-styled Triumph motorcycle has been spied testing on the outskirts of Spanish city Barcelona. The bike sort of reminds us about the current Thruxton in the Classics line-up, but it looks like Triumph is planning to play things at a new level.

The spied motorcycle retains the parallel-twin engine and it appears like we’re dealing with a liquid-cooled bike and a bigger displacement. Visordown speculates that this lump might be an 1,100cc one, with an output of around 90 horsepower. If this turns out to be true, the new Triumph may be a bike that’s more fun to ride than a Classic. The combination of retro design cues and increased power, a feat coherent with the trend of contemporary bikes, should draw in a lot of attention.

Classic and sport classic machines to arrive

The spies report that two versions of the bike have been spotted, with the one pictured here being what is believed to be an R version. With R most likely being a “racer” suffix, we are glad to see Ohlins suspensions and radial Brembo brakes, two sure signs which tell us about a bike that’s engineered for more aggressive riding style. Which again, should make the retro-styled bike enthusiasts smile with both joy and desire…

The “R” has the classic café-racer rear hump replacing the passenger seat and reverse cone exhausts which hark back to the bikes of yore. We sort of expected the bars to be lower maybe, but it looks like Triumph wanted to retain as much all-day riding comfort as possible for the sporty model, as well, which is obviously a nice touch.

As possible names for the new bike, the British media outlet mentions Street Tracker, but doesn’t rule out a revival of the older Speed Twin moniker. The same source says that both machines will have ABS (according to EU regulations), but are only expected to show up in 2016, unfortunately. Which sort of means we might get to see them at EICMA 2015. We liked Triumphs booth at EICMA 2014 quite a lot, and adding more retro goodies to the line-up is only making things better.

PS: A rival for the Norton Dominator SS maybe?
