New Car Technologies Giving Clients and Salespersons Big Headaches

Back in the old days of motoring, the salesman at a dealership only had to talk you through optional paint colors, rims, radio and maybe air conditioning. Now, with all these electronic assists and complicated infotainment systems featuring apps and stuff, they’ll usually end up in a big confusion which could affect you as a client. And that tech can also get glitchy...
According to a Consumer Reports survey performed on car buyers who owned a 2011, 2012 or 2013 vehicle, the majority ended up in frustration. About 60 percent of them said they had problems learning how to operate the infotainment system while a third reported glitches like unresponsive touchscreens or voice-control issues.

The problem seems to especially affect the elderly buyers, with almost 70% of drivers aged over 65 reported having difficulties learning how to operate the systems. The rest of the age range isn’t doing a lot better, with 52 percent of owners aged between 45 to 64 reporting the same experiences and 37 percent of drivers between 18 and 44 years old going through the same ordeal.

Funny thing is dealerships have problems too with all these geeky optionals. Salespersons have to learn their way through the systems to be able to preach their knowledge further down the line to the customers. Some dealerships prefer to make instructional Youtube videos or even perform weekend or evening tech classes for customers.

Some even had to hire tech specialists to teach clients or possible clients about the vehicles’ electronic systems and even do comparisons between theirs and the competition for them to understand better.

Truth is, when you have a lineup of ten to fifteen cars, each with it’s own special features and different tech combinations, it’s quite impossible to memorize everything.
