New Ford Focus Electric Confirmed to Be $6,000 Cheaper Than Predecessor

Seems like a previous report claiming the 2015 Ford Focus Electric will shave $6,000 off its sticker price was bang on the money. The electric Focus isn't just considerably cheaper than before, but also slightly restyled and a lot better equipped as standard.

On sale now at more than 900 Ford dealerships throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, the 2015 Focus boasts with a driving range of 76 miles (122 kilometers) on a full charge cycle. Speaking of which, that takes up to 3.5 hours with a 240-volt charge station according to the American carmaker.

Exclusively equipped with a single-speed automatic transmission, the 2015 Focus Electric is limited to just 84 miles per hour (135 km/h), but do you really need more for your everyday city dwelling? With the basics covered, we're happy to announce prospective customers that they're in for quite a big treat.

For the 2015 model year, the Blue Oval throws in at no additional cost amenities such as Sync, MyKey, leather on the parking brake handle, a handy parking camera, Hill Start Assist and HD Radio. To boot, the MyFord Mobile app lets smartphone users control the vehicle remotely via their mobile devices.

The $29,995 new Focus Electric gets a redesigned instrument panel, center stack, climate controls and center floor console. On the outside you'll find a botoxed rear bumper, revamped tail lights, a different tailgate and a little boot spoiler. Other than that, buyers are offered a choice of four new exterior paint options: Magnetic Metallic, Tectonic Metallic, Performance Blue Metallic and Ruby Red Tinted Clearcoat.
