New Nissan GT-R Quarter Mile World Record Set with Staggering 7.49s Run

Ladies and gentlemen drag racers, the past weekend has been unbelievably hot in Texas, where the TX2k15 quarter mile event is taking place. Not surprisingly, all the racing in the Lone Star State has led to a new Nissan GT-R quarter mile world record and the new figures are simply mind-blowing.

Those keeping track of the Godzilla straight line racing in the US know that there has been quite a battle between two developers, namely AMS Performance and ETS (Extreme Turbo Systems). Until this weekend, the record stood in AMS' trophy cabinet, with their Alpha Omega GT-R having pulled a 7.7s quarter mile run at 186.5 mph (300.3 km/h).

Extreme Turbo Systems have now taken that crown and, as you'll be able to see in the clip below, they've done so in a brutal manner. The result was a 7.49s pass at 189 mph (304.3 km/h).

Keep in mind that while this is a heavily modified contraption, it's still based on the GT-R you can buy in showrooms. To get an idea on how far the mods have taken this car, we'll mention the stock GT-R plays the quarter mile game in 11.1s at 125 mph (201.2 km/h).

Staying true to their name, Extreme Turbo Systems have fitted a pair of 74-mm turbines in the engine compartment, with their GT-R being able to deliver north of 2,000 hp at the wheels.

While the aforementioned value was achieved during a dyno run where the twin turbos were generating 55 lbs of boost, the record-setting run saw the Nissan being forced-fed at 50 lbs of boost.

Spoiler alert: pay attention to the in-car pieces of footage. After the driver switches the car to RWD mode to perform the mandatory burnout, the take-off has some rather amusing consequences.
