Winter is undoubtedly the worst season for us car drivers. We have to change the tires, constantly dig our cars out and deal with all sorts of invisible hazard, like black ice. But Nissan tells us, or rather its Canadian buyers, that the crossover utility vehicle range they have on sale is the perfect countermeasure.
They took that idea quite literally in a set of ads that create fictional monsters based on actual dangers we drivers encounter. So for example, the Juke is met by deadly asphalt jaws that it needs to avoid, a hint at the potholes dotted about. After that the Rogue faces against a mud monster, which is our favorite because it looks just like the creatures Tom Cruise kills in The Edge of Tomorrow.
The tree monster that wants to destroy a Pathfinder is also pretty cool. But do you Warcraft much, Nissan? I mean, it looks just like the Ancient Protector from Blizzard's legendary game. Still, it's a pretty scary tree monster, even if we do say so ourselves. We don't like the bridge monster much better either, but that could just be because some of us thing the Murano is an SUV for rich people with no taste in cars.
If you ask this editor, Nissan is better know for CVT gearboxes and underpowered engines, but the commercial does a pretty sweet job of livening up the car marketing scene. There's nothing that special about Nissan all-wheel drive systems, but at least the lineup of CUVs they have is fresher now than it's ever been.
