Hyundai will be recalling over 200,000 Elantra models after the South-Korean manufacturer indentified a malfunction that affects the car's steering system. Reports have already been filed with United States auto safety regulators, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
There is no room for hipsters in the recall frenzy that started a few year ago and it looks like all carmakers are one way or another forced to call in models for different problems. Some may be superficial but some may lead to serious issues and life-threatening situations of not revised in due time.

We've all seen it happen for Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, General Motors and Land Rover in recent times, but now Hyundai is facing the same problem. According to a report, Hyundai Motor Company is recalling 204,768 Elantra models because of a steering system malfunction.

This is a really big deal as the power steering defect could cause the cars to suddenly revert to manual steering. The recall is targeting four-door Hyundai Elantra models produced from June 1, 2008 to April 30, 2010 along with 2009-2010 model Elantra Touring wagon, as the issue could affect at least 3 percent of these vehicles.

According to Hyundai officials, "steering control can be maintained; however, the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, requiring greater driver effort, particularly at low speeds. This could result in an increased risk of a crash."

Hyundai is arguing this decision as one that will keep the company in line with the industry trends at the moment. However, officials did not say whether there were reported incidents caused by this specific fault.

Hyundai Motors America will notify all owners of affected vehicles to return them to their Hyundai dealers to verify the proper operation of the Electronic Power Steering and update the EPS unit control.
