Official: New Skoda Superb to Debut in February 2015

Even though we only caught our first glimpse of the all-new Skoda Superb a couple of day ago, the Czech carmaker has moved to make its flagship officially official. In a short and overhyped press release that just came out, the Superb 3 has revealed some of its secrets.

The first thing you Skoda buyers need to know is that the new model will make its world premiere very early next year, at a special event held in Prague mid-February. It will then make its way to the Geneva Motor Show, where we'll check it out, followed by a market launch across Europe come mid-2015.

There's not a lot that Skoda wants to officially reveal yet, but the company has said the MQB platform will be used and that we should expect more technology, superior build quality, more interior space and the biggest boot in the class.

“The new Skoda Superb is the best Skoda ever. This latest generation of our flagship will appeal to new groups of customers in the business and private sector. The qualities of the Superb emphasize the brand’s values and point to the future of Skoda,”
said Skoda CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland.

Fresh details?

Two photos of the camouflaged Superb prototype were provided to us by the Skoda press office. They reveal nothing other than the fact that full LED headlights have not been installed and the radar system which most MQB cars offer has been placed behind a clear piece of plastic in the middle of the grille.

Most Superb buyers will be more interested in what's under the bonnet than intelligent cruise control or lane watching tech. A number of brand new EA888 family engines will be made available, including the 1.4-liter TSI turbo with cylinder deactivation and an efficient 2-liter TSI with 280 hp that will replace the V6.

However, most buyers will go for the new 2.0 EA288 four-cylinder TDI diesel. This will be available with either 150 or 184 hp, proving not only more powerful, but also more economical than before. Skoda is rumored to make the Superb its first plug-in hybrid, using the tech from the Passat GTE. However, by the looks of things, the electrified Superb is a long way from reaching production.
