Renault has just officially announced that "Talisman" is the official name of its new D-segment saloon which it plans to reveal in about a week.
This could be the biggest surprise of the week, as we honestly didn't expect Renault would replace the Laguna, one of its most famous models. However, a new name means they can start with a clean slate and stop people from comparing the old Laguna with the "new one".

Built on an all-new platform shared with the Nissan Qashqai and Kadjar, the Renault Talisman will make heavy use of downsized engines. That means instead of 2.0 dCi engines, we could see a twin-turbo 1.6 dCi pushing 160 horsepower to the front wheels.

Could we be wrong? Could the Talisman be something else and not the Laguna successor? Not likely, since our sources already confirmed the debut will take place in July.

Considering the Talisman sedan will be on sale for at least five years, we should familiarize ourselves with how Renault chose this name and what it means for them:

"True to this tradition, the Talisman has been given a charismatic name that conjures up notions of both protection and power. At the same time, Talisman is an easy word to pronounce and understood the world over. This three-syllable name rolls easily and naturally off the tongue word yet it asserts the model’s powerful poise and the energy it radiates. The combination of its robust, racy lines and innovative technologies express protection and safety."

For the moment, details regarding this new model are limited. All the have is the teaser video below, which is designed to set the mood and please the eye. For a better idea of what to expect, check out our spy photos, which have been added to the gallery below.
