Audi A6 Facelift Tuned by ABT Sportsline

You might be tempted to think that the mid-life facelift of the Audi A6 family only targets the headlights and a few small details. However, engineers changed about half of the engines and installed a twin-clutch auto instead of the CVT.

As a result, German tuner ABT Sportsline decided to take a second look at the mid-size sedan and wagon. The results were presented today ahead of the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.

Last month, the same company decided to give the S6 facelift another 100 horsepower, placing it within millimeters of the hardcore RS6. So, what have they done to the "vanilla" models? Let's start with the model every traveling salesperson wants, the 2.0 TDI. This 520d competitor puts out exactly 190 PS and 400 Nm of torque in stock form while the ABT-tuned version is a little more impressive with 215 PS and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque.

Next up, we have the bi-turbo 3-liter diesel, which has been boosted to 365 PS and 710 Nm of torque (524 lb-ft). It's not a huge improvement, but the numbers are good for this class of diesel mill.

Finally, we have the 3.0 TFSI, the same engine used by the S4. Audi's stock setup delivers 333 PS and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of supercharged goodness. By playing with the electronics, ABT has pushed those numbers to 410 PS and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque.

If power is not enough for you, ABT has a comprehensive list of custom parts that can easily be added to your A6. The Frankfurt-bound show stopper also features their trademark candy black paintjob.

Starting at the front, we notice the inserts for the grille and lower bumper. New mirror caps made from carbon fiber have been installed, together with a diffuser that hugs the new quad exhaust system. As for the wheels, you can order anything from a normal 19-inch alloy set to the massive 21-inch black set you see here.

For the ultimate stance, an air suspension system can be installed to lower the car by up to 20mm. The final performance upgrade consists of eight-piston front calipers with 380x34mm discs that stop the car as well as it goes.
