Audi TT Avant Rendered: CLA Shooting Brake Fighter

Usually when a new concept car comes out, we pretty much know exactly what sorts of renderings to expect. So for example if Mercedes reveals the new C63 AMG sedan, somebody is going to do a shooting break, convertible and coupe sooner or later.

But we never expected this, the Audi TT Avant Concept. It stretches our imagination to the point of braking, a black swan moment by its definition. Essentially, this is a wagon version of a four-door coupe version of a two-door small coupe.

Let's explain that in detail. At the beginning of the year, Audi revealed the all-new TT coupe, a third generation model they developed using the MQB toolkit. That was quickly followed up by a roadster and the rumor that a third model would be added. Two concepts were built, the TT Offroad for Beijing in April, followed by the TT Sportback, a four-door coupe presented in Paris.

The TT Avant is based on that model and has clearly been put together because graphic designer Theophilus Chin was inspired by the concept car to a certain degree. Most of the bodywork is the same, but the roof line of an A3 Sportback has been added over the boot to create a hatchback. Simple, really.

It's worth a quick note that Audi has not built an Avant on the MQB platform and probably doesn't plan to. Instead, an MPV is going to be developed and could compete directly with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Mercedes B-Class. The TT Avant, on the other hand, would fight against the sexy new CLA Shooting Brake.
