Because the Essen Motor Show is predominantly focused on Volkswagens, Audis, and BMWs, famed tuning specialist ABT Sportsline has decided to revise its previous kit for the RS3. That's because other companies will also debut similar products, so it doesn't hurt to be better than the competition.
The 2.5-liter TFSI doesn't have a lot of tuning potential, as most companies only managed to boost the output from 367 to 430 PS. For a family hatchback, that's a lot of turbo punch, but ABT's kit takes things even further with an output of 450 PS and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.
People have squeezed 700 horsepower out of the old TT-RS, so we're not blown away by ABT's work. But it's important to note that they only installed an ABT Engine Control unit and a sports exhaust system with quad 102-mm exhaust tips. To achieve even higher outputs, they will need a bigger turbocharger.
No performance numbers are available, but we suspect the RS3 is now capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. You could drag race the A45 AMG all day and probably never lose… unless the Merc is also tuned.
ABT has also prepped a fresh batch of performance goodies for Essen. The exhaust system with matte black tips is the tip of the iceberg. The RS3 will be presented with a brand new satin red body featuring a pearlescent finish. A piano black insert for the rear number plate holder and a trunk spoiler have also been devised.
The hatchback will ride into Europe's biggest tuning show on 19-inch ER-F forged wheels shod in 235/35 ZR19 Continental tires. The suspension system has been shortened by 30mm at the front and 25mm at the rear, thanks to custom shocks and springs.
