Just like last year, we showed up at the Essen Motor Show in Germany this year as well, to bring you the latest in the tuning world. AC Schnitzer’s stand marked a world debut for their take on the M4 but some local debuts as well.
The center of attention was the M car, of course. That’s because it looks a lot wilder than what we’ve been used to from the Aachen-based tuner. Usually, AC Schnitzer makes a statement through its technical details but on the outside, things are marginally enhanced.

Well, it seems like that’s no longer the case. The M4 received a really good-looking body kit comprised of a new air splitter up front made of carbon fiber, a new rear diffuser made of the same material, carbon mirror covers and a roof spoiler round the back. The wing is basically a bonus, being made of the same lightweight material as all other parts.

The M4 technical upgrades

From an engineering point of view, the AC Schnitzer crew did an unbelievably good job and they focused on squeezing just enough extra power out of the crank without affecting reliability.

Therefore, they’re offering a warranty of 100,000 km (62,000 miles) or for two years, depending on your choice. That’s for the regular models though. On M cars, the numbers are reduced to 60,000 km (37,000 miles) and it will be done at one of their centers.

The S55 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine and its two turbochargers were taken up from 431 HP to 510 HP thanks to a new ECU map and a new exhaust that allows a better gas flow. Furthermore, the new system also has nicer exhaust tips.

The rest of the line-up

Apart from the M4, the AC Schnitzer stand also had a couple of local premieres, like the kit for the M235i and the 4 Series Gran Coupe that were launched shortly before the Essen Motor Show 2014 opened its gates.

The ACS2 Coupe (which is AC Schnitzer’s name for the M235i) was fitted with the same aero parts as its M4 brother, including a new splitter up front, new diffuser, new diffuser, exhaust tips, boot lid spoiler and roof spoiler.

On the power front, the 326 HP of the 3-liter mill were taken up to 380 HP thanks to a new intercooler and some ECU tweaks. The intercooler is the main upgrade here as it offers an 80% larger air contact surface and 62% more charge air volume than the standard version.

As for the 4 Series Gran Coupe, the 5-door model was given a more stylish appearance. The same add-on parts were included but not made of carbon fiber like on the other Bimmers that, admittedly, were wearing M badges.

Since the 35i letters were visible on the boot, we assume this is the enhanced version of the tuner, making 360 HP and 500 Nm (362 lb-ft) of torque instead of the stock 306 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).  Enough tech talk, check out the live photos!
