Plenty of people claim that cars these days don’t have the soul they used to and when it comes to BMWs it seems like most of them are right. Sure, there are a plethora of factors to keep in mind when comparing modern cars with their predecessors but the truth of the matter is there’s a problem with their aural experience at the moment.
That’s mostly true for Bavarian machines, as we said, while others are alive and sound as well as or even better than the models that came before them. One particular example is the SLS AMG that, in stock guise, sounds like an army of thousands of mongol warriors are riding to meet you in battle.
What’s the solution?
The obvious solution to such problems is a new exhaust system. Every manufacturer out there seems to have a sweetheart in the shape of some aftermarket tuning company but one name resonates with all of them.
That’s Akrapovic, a company that dedicated all of its time to creating exquisite products for a wide array of cars, from BMWs to Nissans and Porsches.
The guys from Motorsport Magazine got a couple of cars fitted with their exhausts together and had a sort of showdown. The M4 and M5 were decent but it was game over once the SLS AMG started revving its huge engine.
Can you afford one?
Sure, it all sounds good but you should know that prices for such parts are nowhere near an accessible point. We’ll list them all down here to spare you from searching for them yourself.
The M4 Evolution Titanium Exhaust System costs no less than $6,731 and includes all the parts you need. To that you’ll have to add labour hours (or not, if you want to install the thing yourself) and the price of new tips if you want something special.
The M5 package is even more expensive, at $8,410. Here too, you’ll have to add a couple of bucks for custom tips. The system for the Nissan is the cheapest of the bunch, priced at just $2,195, while the Porsche is the second most expensive at $13,200.
The king here, the SLS AMG is the best sounding of them all but it’s also the most expensive, priced at $13,995. Is it worth it? Check out the video below and let us know.
