The Xtreme XL de Lagares is a hard enduro event in Portugal, and this year's prologue was held in the old part of Porto, one of the country's main cities. The course of the prologue was set in the historic part of the town, and consisted of seemingly endless flights of stairs going up and going down.
And to make things even more thrilling, the course was so narrow in certain sports that a bike was left with only inches to either side. needless to say, passing was only possible in only a few spots, and even there, it would mean a rather risky business.

The slight fish-eye effect of the action camera distorts a bit the image, making everything look even more insane. The perceived speed of the bike is also affected by the camera, but it doesn't mean this video is less extreme.

Make no mistake, this is no fast-forward video like some kids upload to Youtube to brag on, and behind Gomez were tens of other athletes riding just as hard as him, leaving technically zero room for mistakes and with the prospect of severe injuries as real as anything else.

We could not find how long the prologue was, but judging by the map of the event combined with what the footage shows, we take it that it wasn't exactly a stroll in the park. A favourite for winning the event, Gomez cleared the prologue section in 3'18"71, followed by fellow countryman Dani Oliveras and Great Britain's Ben Hemingway.

This prologue is not as crazy as the opening move in the world's toughest round, the Red Bull Romaniacs, but it's definitely one of the crazy ones out there. Enjoy this amazing POV video and don't try to replicate it in your neighbourhood, what you see are some of the world's best enduro riders at work.
