Would you believe the first generation Volkswagen Touran was launched in 2003? Since then, 1.3 million cars were sold, mainly in Europe, but also in China, where the model is attracting more and more customers.
At the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the Germans introduced an all-new generation. It's based on the same platform as the Golf, and we think it's better looking than many other Volkswagens sold at the moment. Sure, the lines are simple and not as revolutionary as the C4 Picasso, but family men will geek over the small panel gaps and LED headlights.

Today, we submit for your viewing please the latest press images of the 2015 Touran in twin flavors. One car is equipped with a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine, the other with the 2.0 TDI counterpart. We also get a taste of the colors, the €225 Pure White, and the €560 Atlantic blue counterpart.

Other engines offered at launch include a 1.2-liter base turbo with 110 PS and a 2-liter turbo rated at 180 PS. Diesel options start with the 110 PS 1.6 TDI and work their way up to the 190 PS flagship. Which is the most frugal? Volkswagen says that with the seven-seater version fitted with the 1.6 and DSG will return 4.1 l/100 km (68.9 mpg UK).

On average, the Touran is 19% more efficient and 62 kilograms lighter (136 lbs) than its predecessor. Despite this, it's a more substantial car, having been extended by 130 mm (5 inches).

On the tech front, the 2015 Touran introduces has LED headlamps with dynamic main beam control function (Dynamic Light Assist), Mirrorlink capability with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior is a mix of Passat and Golf parts that old Touran customers will feel instantly familiar with.

Sales of the 2016 Touran begin in Europe this September. Production has already started, so we can't wait to see if European customers return to this segment or continue to buy SUVs.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
