When you say Ford Mustang or Cadillac Bel Air you think of genuine muscle cars, machines of such nature that simply can’t be associated with anything else but great power and real car enthusiasm. To some point, these and many other classic rides are usually associated with some sort of male dominance. This is exactly what Cheryl Kelley’s art proves wrong.
Not only is one of our team members doing his own renderings, but considering our field of interest, every time we stumble upon beautiful cars envisioned through the creation of a talented artist, things get even better. However, there is some sort of surprise here, since the artist doing the job is in fact a great female motorist. And here things go wild.

Born at the end of the sixties, I was fortunate to enter the world during the formative years of the American Feminist movement. However, as I grew into my love of the monster machines, so did my awareness that the muscle car was the last bastion of young male dominance. These big engine cars, seemingly fueled by raw testosterone, were ironically most definitely feminine in form“, Cheryl Kelley explains her work on her website.

Even though older models muscle cars are remembered for their speed and power, the artist claims her paintings are about the feminine sensuality of the surfaces “the Mel Ramos-like perfection of female form”. All the cars she creates on paper are extremely realistic and perfectly polished, in such a unique way it appears as if the paint job acts like a mirror. Kelley says the reflections on the surfaces of the automobiles allow the viewer to go deeper, to see something more than the form.

All the pictures in the photo gallery are real paintings, as the artist uses oil colors on canvas. These works can appear both photo realistic and gesturally abstract depending on the position of the viewer. Looking through the pictures below, you might recognize some of the models, if not some of the cars themselves, considering the artist finds inspiration in photographs that she takes at cars shows and museums.
