B&B Tunes Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG to 450 HP

The CLA 45 AMG is already a potent little car, powered along by AMG's one and only 2-liter turbo engine making 360 hp. However, it's become the target of German tuning firm B&B-Automobiltechnik, who have just announced a 3-stage upgrade program.

Here's what you should really get excited about: total output increased to 450 hp and 580 Nm of torque, with a top speed in excess of 300 km/h (186 mph). For a car originally designed with front-wheel drive in mind, that's amazing.

But let's take things easy and start from the bottom of the range, where the a simple ECU remap costing €1,298 will get the motor from 360 to a nice, well rounded 400 horsepower. That's Porsche 911 Carrera S output from an engine half the size.

The second stage of tuning adds new downpipes and custom intake paths, increasing the bill to €3,950. In this case, the total output is 425 hp and 540 Nm of torque, which is enough to shame some V8s.

Finally, the stage 3 kit from B&B-Automobiltechnik uses a special larger diameter turbocharger and new injectors to give you 450 hp and 580 Nm of torque. The kit costs €6,950 in Germany including tax and also removes the speed limiter.

With this in place, the CLA 45 AMG is able to reach 100 km/h in only 3.8 seconds, which is comparable to an SLS supercar of old or even an Audi RS7.

The list of tuning bits from B&B also includes an additional oil cooler for €1,595, sports springs for €398, adjustable coilover suspension from KW costing €1,849 and 20-inch wheels with 235/30 tires. In this case, larger diameter brakes can also be installed, fitted with more durable track pads.
