Bugatti Veyrons Set Free on Closed Public Road Hit 235 MPH while Racing

Three Veyrons showed up for the event, which sees the road being closed so that the owners of the participating cars can fully stretch the legs of their machines. We’re talking about a Vitesse L’Or Rouge, a Super Sport and another Vitesse (if we may refer to Veyrons in such a manner). The most important thing you need to know is that we’re talking about a line-up consisting of 1,184 hp (1,200 PS) Veyrons here.

A fourth Bugatti was expected to take part in the road rally and we’re talking about a Pur Blanc. Sadly, a rock decided to jump through the car’s front grille and attack the cooling system, causing a radiator pipe to crack.

Both Vitesses were unleashed back and forth on the Sun Valley Road in Idaho, managing to climb as high as 235 mph (that’s 378 km/h for all you dreaming at this over in Europe). For the record, the official top speed of these cars sits at 255 mph, but hitting it requires safety conditions that might have not been met at the event. Or perhaps the owners thought 235 mph was enough.

We have to explain the stretch of road where these Veyrons went Berserk is usually subjected to the standard 75 mph speed limits, but this no longer applies during the rally. Speaking of which, this event is a bit of a metaphor. You see, its aim is to raise funds for fighting drug use via an association called Drug Coalition and perhaps they’re sending a message about the drug of velocity here.
