These days, Bentley is more and more keen to show us the Flying B badge has returned to the track, a place that was first visited by the Brits over nine decades ago. Crewe’s most recent effort of this kind is the Continental GT3-R. Much like racing itself, such a car may appear pointless to the untrained eye and yet the real-world experience can easily prove the contrary.
Once you were treated with Crewe’s combination of all things lavish and weight-defying driving dynamics, there’s a high risk you’ll fall in love with it. Well, you can simply expand this mentality in order to understand why they’re building 300 units of the Continental GT3-R.
The sheer notion of one of these behemoths playing around on a circuit is a delicious paradox, but when one of those 300 cars actually hits a track and starts going sideways, the noble spectacle is guaranteed.
The one manhandling the 2,195 kg (4,893 lbs) slab of Britain is Chris Harris, who had no issue with living his life sideways. The British journo demonstrates the slip angle capabilities of this stripped-out, beefed-up 580 HP Conti in a clip that will surely make your (track) day.
Even those stickers on the bodywork shall be labeled under "accepted" when the road-going version of the Continental GT3 racecar is such an interesting paradox.
PS: You can learn all about the car in our Continental GT3-R vs. Continental GT3 Racecar comparison, which shows just how far the street-legal car has been taken.
