The Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 may have enjoyed its official debut at March's Geneva Motor Show, but it's secrets are only being revealed during the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2015.
There, Bentley's pride and joy edged in front of competitors, like the Aston Martin DBX, to win the Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes. So it's not just our imagination when we say that it's a stunning machine.
But the real story that developed over the weekend is that people were able to film this concept in motion for the first time. Bentley probably spent millions putting the EXP 10 together, so to see them driving it over cobbled roads is a real treat for the eyes.
This footage shot by Youtuber 19Bozzy92 shows both the inside and the outside of this concept vehicle. We'd argue that it's even more immaculately conceived than a regular Continental GT, but that's already obvious.
The engine sound is of particular interest to everybody. Not a single detail has been revealed yet, leading many to speculate the EXP 10 previews an entry-level 2-seat with a smaller mill. This concept sounds nothing like the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, and the car may be too small for the W12. So what gives?
The Speed 6 in the name of the car could be a reference to the Speed Six "Old Number One" that won the 1929 and 1930 Le Mans, but it could also hint at the number of cylinders.
You see, in the early 2000s, Bentley had a racing prototype in the Le Mans series called the Speed 8, and it had just as many cylinders. Hence, the Speed 6 could pack one mighty twin-turbo V6 like the one Audi is currently developing for the RS4. Or better yet, why not pluck the 420 PS 3.6-liter unit from the Porsche Cayenne S? This concept is described as being a “bold vision for a brand with a bold future" and a “potential future model line”.
For now, all we can say is that this is either a well-kept secret or a W12 that sounds different. Maybe we'll know more once the Bentayga enters production and more resources are freed.
