BMW’s current 2 Series lineup is made up of a couple of rather interesting models. Depending on which side of the Atlantic you reside, you can get either just petrol units or both petrol and diesel plants. This time, we’re looking into diesels.
In the US you can only get the 228i and M235i models, both of them available with xDrive. In Germany, you get access to a bigger variety that is comprised of six models, the pick of the range being the 225d version.

That’s because it has the best price/performance/efficiency ratio. Fitted with a bi-turbo 2-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 218 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque, this little Coupe will do 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.3 seconds. At the same time, it will return an average fuel consumption of just 4.7 l/100 km (50 mpg).

Looking good, right? Well, the guys from ShifTech Engineering claim that they can take the car up to 271 HP with just an ECU tune. That’s right, 271 HP and 514 Nm (379 lb-ft) of torque out of a 2-liter diesel. How is that possible?

We’re not really sure, but their dyno chart seems to be correct. Of course, we’d also recommend changing the exhaust system, brakes and suspension, but that’s only if you’d actually be crazy enough to want that amount of power.
