As we turn yet another page in the calendar, the sales results for September are coming in and, as we got used to the US numbers are first on the list. The BMW brand sales were the best ever recorded for the ninth month of the year but MINI continues to disappoint.
The BMW brand sales recorded an 8.6 percent growth last month, adding up to a grand total of 25,586 units compared to 23,568 units sold in the same month of 2013. As impressive as that sounds, the year-to-date sales of cars wearing the BMW badge grew by 11.3 percent so far, to 236,591 units.

“After such a strong August, to set a new September sales record for BMW is a great accomplishment and emphasizes the importance of our new models to the company’s sales success,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “I am especially pleased to see dealer deliveries of the spectacular i8 hybrid now underway as we enter the very important fourth quarter of the year.”

MINI sales, on the other hand, continue to drop and we’re guessing people are starting to freak out in New Jersey. In September, MINI USA reported selling only 4,219 units, a decrease of 20.5 percent compared to last year when 5,306 cars.

The year-to-date numbers don’t look any better either, recording a drop of 21 percent from the49,635 units sold in 2013 to 39,188.

Combined, the two companies add up to 29,805 vehicles, an increase of 3.2 percent compared to the 28,874 cars sold over the same ninth month of 2013. Overall, the BMW Group is up by 5.2 percent in numbers over the first nine months of 2014, adding up to a grand total of 275,779 units sold so far.
