BMW ConnectedDrive Is Now Also an in-car Store

BMW has just become the world’s first auto manufacturer to offer an in-vehicle store. Their ConnectedDrive system included in iDrive now allows its US customers to make purchases through it. While using the new ConnectedDrive Store they can purchase services and apps for a variety of purposes.

At first, services included in this package will be rather limited but through Concierge, you’ll get access to a plethora of possibilities. For example, you can help find locations of a theater, restaurant or a hotel, all through a live representative that can be contacted via this service.

He can also send the navigation details to the car’s on-board system to guide you directly to the place you need to go. Furthermore, let’s say your phone ran out of battery. Using the on-board SIM card you can call a live representative than can then patch you through to someone you need to get in contact with.

Announced as a premiere for the Detroit Auto Show, BMW is planning on offering Navigation Map Updates as well, in a over the air fashion. What that means is that the maps will be updated in real time, to make sure they offer the most recent information possible, with no charge to the customer.

The way it works is drivers log in to the ConnectedDrive Store and they are introduced to an overview of the services and apps that are available. If they have already booked some for their car before taking purchase, they will also be presented when ConnectedDrive is open for the first time.

Drivers can also see remaining running periods for booked services as well as costs to purchase extensions or new services. Once selected and paid for, a service or app can be used within minutes.

If you’re interested how everything works, BMW will be displaying the new features at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show at the South Plaza, outside the Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall starting January 6.
