The rewards of having an incredibly good eye for details can go further than you ever imagined. Take the following two photos for example. A regular guy or girl that knows a thing or two about cars might’ve not looked twice at the trailer passing by them. However, a really passionate person would notice something was off.
First of all, the M3s on board are amongst the first LCI models to be spotted in the wild. You can tell by the taillights that have a different design compared to the original model. Things go a little deeper, though.

The main hint lies at the bottom of the car, sort of speak. We’re referring to the wheels that have the same 666 M style design as the ones used for the BMW M4 GTS Concept revealed just two weeks ago at Pebble Beach. If you don’t recognize it, it may be due to the lack of orange details around the spokes but trust us, it’s the same.

So, what could this possibly mean? Is this the BMW M3 GTS or what? Well, not exactly. According to usual suspect and inside info provider Scott26, the cars we’re looking at here are Competition Package M3s, a sort of intermediary model between the regular version and the GTS one.

That could mean a couple of things. First of all, the Competition Package model might not go through the same weight-loss diet as its GTS brother. Therefore, it would be marginally slower than it on the track. However, it would be a lot more comfortable to live with day by day and it could also feature a more powerful engine and advanced suspension setup.

If history is any indicator, a power bump wouldn’t be included but we’re allowed to dream, right? Older models with the ZCP setup received shorter springs, a new software for the adaptive dampers and exclusive wheels. That’s for the E9x models.

The E46 range also had better brakes included in the deal, a new M track mode for the stability control module, a shorter steering ratio and other visual improvements over standard models. Let’s hope the ZCP F80 M3 will be more like the E46 and not the E9x models.
