The Munich-based carmaker revealed the i Vision Future Interaction at CES 2016. And guess what: it’s, in fact, a hardcore spyder, Barchetta-like version of the i8.
The new concept appears to be an evolution of the i8 Spyder Concept presented for the first time in 2012 at the Beijing Motor Show. Aside from not having a roof or doors, the concept is as you have expected, full of technology. Things like a head-up display, an instrument cluster with a three-dimensional display, or a 21-inch screen on the passenger side that’s intended to make your time more enjoyable while the car is in autonomous driving mode are the first gizmos you get to see when entering the car.

The large screen seems to be the central piece of the interior, as it also intends to integrate with the rest of your technology. For example, you will be able to Facetime while the car is in fully autonomous mode, and if you have to take control, the call will automatically switch to an audio-only call. Also, while in autonomous mode, the steering wheel pulls back giving you more space to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride in your doorless i8 Spyder.

We have to mention that you won’t need to touch the buttons to interact with the car because BMW’s AirTouch had its world premiere. Some very smart sensors recognize movements made with the hand, and also depth movements, and you can operate the interface without even touching the surface.

This version of the i8 comes not long after BMW's CEO Harald Kruger confirmed the i8 Spyder during an interview in early December 2015. All we have to do now is wait for the German company to announce the official date of production for the roofless i8. We may have one more curiosity: will it be doorless too?

For those of you who are still waiting for an i8 M to be born, we might have some bad news because there are still no signs of this happening in the near future, but hey, don't lose hope!
