Celebrating 25 years of activity, the Swiss Urfer Group decided to put together a clip that would show where the company has been and mostly where it’s heading. Needless to say that in order to do so, they used a BMW i8.
The resulting clip was published on Youtube and it’s actually really good. We were rather surprised mostly because clips done by dealerships usually don’t look (or sound) as good as this one.

The explanation? The shots and concept were conceived by H. Ka Wang, a professional photographer that took care of business and showed us the i8 from its best angles.

And rightfully so, as well. The i8 is no ordinary car. As even Carsten Pries said in an interview, BMW wanted a new hallmark car but instead of making it under the Motorsport division’s supervising look, it was created along with a new sub-brand, i.

With it, the Germans are making a couple of strong statements about how the future of mobility is shaping up. According to them, hybrid powertrains are the next step that would allow us to have a similar feel to the conventional cars we know, while keeping fuel consumption and emissions in check.

Under the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic body of the i8 hides a new powertrain made up of a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine for the rear axle making 231 HP and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, and an electric motor developing 131 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.

Combined, the two offer the i8 362 HP and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque, all-wheel drive and two gearboxes. One for the conventional engine, with six speeds, and one for the electric one with 2 gears.

The numbers speak for themselves. The lightweight hybrid will do 62 mph in 4.4 seconds while emitting 49 grams of CO2 and sipping 2.1 l/100 km (121 mpg). What more could you wish for?
