BMW i8 Gets Wrapped in Matte Metallic Grigio by Giovanna

When it comes to the i8, things are never easy to understand. The car created by BMW came out looking so much like the concept it was based on that the world stopped for a second to wonder whether it’s real or not. Yes, it’s real, and it looks out of this world.

Dealing with a car that is supposed to be rarely spotted on the street had BMW in somewhat of a tight spot. They had to make a choice between selling hundreds of thousands of it or keeping it available in limited numbers so that it gets more and more desirable as time passes.

To be completely frank, I don’t know exactly what path they chose. In the beginning, the Leipzig factory where the plug-in hybrid is made was making ten cars a day and the waiting lists started turning longer and longer. At one point, you’d be lucky to wait 18 months for your i8 to arrive.

The Germans claim that’s what prompted them to double the production and, consequently, reduce the waiting times to around four months. It could be that and then again, it could be that they are looking to cash in. All we know is we love this thing.

And when owners get theirs delivered they start customizing them to fit their taste perfectly. Unfortunately, BMW doesn’t offer a lot of optional features for the i car. You can have your pick out of a few paint choices and some interior details, but that’s about it. At most, you’ll be spending around $10,000 more on the car than the $137,450 base price it has.

That kind of money will get you a car done in one of four paint colors: Crystal White, Sophisto Grey, Ionic Silver or Protonic Blue. As you can probably tell, that wasn’t enough for the owner of the car in the adjacent photo gallery. He decided to have his i8 wrapped. This is what he went for.

It’s called Matte Metallic Grigio and it’s breathtaking. Maybe the curves of the car are responsible, or maybe it’s the color but, to be honest, we don’t really care. It looks like a million bucks, and if the owner likes it, that’s all that matters.
