It seems like BMW is all about ‘limited run’ models in Japan, the German manufacturer launching one every couple of weeks. The latest installment of this made up saga is the Executive Edition 740i model that will apparently be built in just 110 units. Or is it?
Looking over what makes this car special you’d be pretty disappointed. That’s because there’s basically nothing on there that you couldn’t get yourself on your own BMW.

Starting off with a base 740i model, the Executive Edition badging brings 19” Style 235 light alloy wheels along with Dakota leather upholstery (you can actually choose the leather’s color), four-zone climate control, ventilated seats and ash grain anthracite wood trims all around. As you can tell, all of these can be individually fitted to your car as well.

Other similar features included in the package are in the technology department. The 110 units will all be wearing head-up displays, surround view cameras and parking assistants. So what’s the deal with all of this ‘limited edition’ mumbo jumbo?

Well, we’re not really sure but we’re guessing that BMW wants to basically show off what you can do with the interior and optional features on a 7 Series before the car sings its swan song.

The price doesn’t really strike us as too expensive either, starting at JPY11.3 million which translates into roughly €76,600 or $96,600. That’s basically cheap for a 7er. The idea behind the Executive Edition 740i is to boost the sales a little before the new flagship is unveiled next year.

Furthermore, BMW also has a plan to reach 2 million cars sold in 2014 and selling such models might help them reach their goal. In the meantime, if you don’t get to buy one of these 110 cars, you can just configure one yourself and buy it.
