BMW Motorcycles Get Upgraded Colors and New Features for 2016

BMW Motorrad unveils the new liveries that will be available for their 2016-spec motorcycles. Nothing fancy, we'd say, but the usual fresh take on the same bikes, a most welcome variation for the new season. However, certain new tech features will also be added to the line-up.

We reported on BMW's recently-introduced dynamic brake light safety feature, and the fact that it will be available on six bikes. The R1200GS, R1200GS Adventure and the all-new sport-adventure S1000XR will be available with an ex-works option for the dynamic brake lights. The 2016 MY 2016 K1600GT, K1600GTL and K1600GTL Exclusive will sport this feature as part of the standard trim.

If you ask us, it's a mystery why BMW has not made the dynamic brake light package an option for bikes such as the R nineT or their all-time favorite R1200RT tourer. It's true that the special brake light system was "served" in conjunction with the ABS Pro feature, but still, it could have been a nice option for these bikes, too.

Here's how the 2016 BMW fleet will look like

The F800GT will arrive in its 2016 guise with a Monolith Metallic Matt / Sapphire Black Metallic paint, while Dark Graphite Metallic will no longer be available.

For the R1200GS, the Light White non-metallic will replace the existing Alpine White 3 non-metallic, and the Black Storm Metallic color will be ditched. The 2016-spec R1200GS Adventure will be available in Racing Red non-metallic matt and Ocean Blue metallic matt, with the Light White non-metallic replacing the current Alpine White 3 non-metallic paint. For the same bike, the Olive non-metallic matt and Racing Blue metallic matt finishes will be abandoned.

A new trim is available for the R1200RT, which will surface with a Platin Bronze metallic paint after ditching the Callisto Grey metallic matt livery. S1000RR will arrive in Black Storm metallic / Racing Red non-metallic colors, whereas the S1000R surfaces with a grained fuel tank trim, instead of the previous fuel tank with paint finish, and only in Light White non-metallic option.

K1600GT receives a Cosmic Blue metallic / Black Storm metallic paint instead of the Sakhir Orange metallic / Black Storm metallic combination, while the GTL version comes in Ocean Blue metallic matt instead of Magnesium beige metallic or Mineral White metallic.

Finally, the flagship K1600GTL Exclusive will arrive in Sparkling Storm metallic. BMW Motorrad has also delivered a new GS flavor, the R1200GS TripleBlack, a mixture between the base R1200GS and the Adventure model.
