Boosted Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost Delivers Porsche Cayman GT4 Quarter Mile Runs

The life of a work truck is anything but simple, since people expect these bed-gifted machines to be good at just about anything they need. Now that the new generation of the Ford F-150 has mixed aluminum construction with a strong 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, drag strip duties seem to have entered the menu.

We're not kidding and we have the video below to prove it. With said F-150 model already delivering respectable sprinting performance in factory trim, it's no wonder that certain owners are willing to tap into the boost pressure potential of the machine.

As a result, we end up with Blue Oval workhorses such as the one in the video below. While we don't know what has taken place under the hood of this blue collar machine, we can tell you the Ford now delivers 1,320 feet performance on par with what you'd get in a Porsche Cayman GT4.

To be more precise, this F-150 managed to pull mid-12s runs at over 105 mph (that's 170 km/h for all you metric system fans). For the record, we'll mention the stock incarnation of the vehicle is the kind of contraption that plays in the 15s quarter mile league.

Now, the Cayman, even with the 911 Carrera S used by the GT4 model, isn't about straight line rush, being focused on lap times. Even so, we have to admit that a full-size pickup truck that can deliver similar drag strip performance is rather impressive.

The credit here goes to the EcoBoost motor, which, in stock trim, delivers 365 hp and a peak torque of 420 lb-ft. And when the twist figure is considerably better than the one offered by the 5.0 V8, the forced-fed six-cylinder story makes a lot of sense.

After all, the current Raptor is also a member of the EcoBoost V6 club, but that's another story for another time.
