Bosch Announces More Torque, More Battery and Other New eBike Technologies

Bosch eBike is preparing a lot of awesome features and upgrades for the 2016 line-up. The new electric bicycles promise an unique experience in a lot of scenarios, from the casual strolls downtown to urban commuting, and from slow-paced pedaling in the countryside to athletic runs up the mountain.

It looks like Bosch is not willing to let others get the upper hand in this segment and is eyeing to stack up quite an impressive array of features for the next model year electrically-assisted bikes. If the prices don't skyrocket, we might be in for quite a stir.

More power and more torque for everybody

Bosch's PowerPack battery is now known as the PowerPack 500. It retains the too-spec energy density and stores 500Wh packed into a small, lightweight lump. The PowerPack 500 is available in both frame and rack versions, and can be charged directly on the bike.

It will recharge to 50% in a couple of hours, while a full charge will need 4.5 hours. Bosch even provides a range calculator on their website, so that riders can estimate the life of their batteries more accurately.

The Performance Line CX motors will be offered with a 75Nm (55.3 lb-ft) of torque instead of 60Nm (44.2 lb-ft). The new drive units have a smaller, powder-coated housing and will provide assistance between 50% and 300% of the pedal power.

Power will be transferred via 14T chainring in combination with SRAM 10-42 or Shimano 11-42 for dependable mountain climbing grunt. However the eShift system adds even more practicality and functionality to the Bosch eBikes.

NuVinci H|Sync with eShift is a cadence-based, continuously variable automatic gear shifting

Shifting gears is now an experience that is close to perfection, thanks to the eShift system. Perfectly-matched electronic gear shifting will make the best and most efficient use of energy in all scenarios, from steep mountain gradients to urban stop-and-go traffic. No less than nine speeds can be manually shifted using it.

The Shimano Di2 integrated electric hub is now equipped with Auto-Downshifting, while the SRAM DD3 Pulse is a speed-dependent automatic hub gear system with a manual 3-speed mode.

Nyon advanced navigation and route sharing

The 2016 Bosch eBikes will also arrive with the Nyon all-in-one onboard computer that provides critical ride data as well as GPS navigation. The UI is customizable via three layouts and around 20 readings, so everything is available at a glance.

Variable route types can be selected, such as the fastest, the most scenic or the best MTB one, while riders can import and share GPX files with their own routes. Of course, Nyon integrates with the rider's smartphone, as well.

No prices or availability have been mentioned so far, but we do expect Bosch to come forth with more details later this year.
