Box Delete Option Now Offered by General Motors on Half-Ton Pickup Trucks

It took General Motors quite a while to understand that an important portion of its pickup truck customers want a box delete option, but their wishes finally came true. Without further beating around the bush, the half-ton Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra can be had in box delete formula.

Customers have been clamoring for box delete offerings in the full-size light-duty truck segment, and General Motors listened. It was bound to happen, you know, partially because meeting customers’ needs also means offering solutions that fit their businesses.

Now available to fleet and retail customers, the box delete option applies to the two-wheel and four-wheel drive 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 in Regular Cab guise. The mid-sized Chevrolet Colorado (pictured) and GMC Canyon can also be modified to take up work with lower payload requirements.

The box delete option’s main benefit is that it reduces upfront expenses while providing fuel economy advantage. In light-duty configuration, the option eliminates the box, rear bumper, and the spare tire. The option also adds a front stabilizer bar from the Max Trailering Package and high-rate springs at the rear for better performance when operating near the maximum gross vehicle weight rating.

As expected, General Motors provides a credit of $575 from the suggested retail price of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra if you opt for a box delete. Adding the spare tire assembly back will cost you $335. The cheapest 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD Regular Cab box delete starts at $29,155. That’s more than $4,000 cheaper than a similarly equipped Chevrolet Silverado 2500 heavy-duty workhorse.

From utility companies that require service bodies to landscapers and other businesses needing the utility of a flatbed, General Motors has the right pickup truck for you. So what if you sacrifice looks for more utility?

If it gets the job done, the box delete option is perfectly fine by us.
