Custom TM 530 Black Dream Loses 35 KG, Becomes Black Nightmare

You don’t need us to tell you that a half-liter supermotard is a hellish motorcycle which can be exceedingly savage in the hands of the skilled, bold rider. How about having the same supermoto stallion losing a whopping 35 kg (77 lb)? Sounds even crazier, doesn’t it? Well, prepare to meet your darkest nightmares, as this is exactly what FMW Motorcycles has done to a TM 530 Black Dream.

Now, the TM is already a savage machine built with premium parts and engineered to deliver both first-class street hooliganic thrills and an upper hand on the race track. BY far among the elite urban slicers, the TM 530 Black Dream has only become more savage and merciless after having spent time in Lorenzo Fugaroli’s workshop.

Extreme weight loss is the key to becoming more evil

You know how much aftermarket parts manufacturers brag on the weight savings you get after installing their products. Several pounds here, one pound there, half a pound with this, another half a pound with that… Well, the Fugar knew this was nowhere near enough so he made an extreme call: go radical, go all the way!

The poor TM 530 Black Dream lost almost every part which had the slightest suspicion of not being essential to the ride. The entire bodywork was tossed and replaced with hand-formed sheet aluminium, Fugaroli’s super-strong point. Nothing matters when it comes to creating the lightest bike possible, so the TM got a miniature bodywork, with the added FMW steampunk-ish airbrush paint for even more “evil points”. Everything was kept down to the bare necessities and that’s why the new bike may seem a bit too radical to some.

Truth be told, we love the headlight casing and the one-piece fascia and front fender. The latter is more of an euphemism, as it functionality is close to zero, but the styling of the whole assembly is just perfect. It matches the shortened tail section and the huge negative space under the rear subframe.

Premium suspensions, tuned engine and a custom exhaust

The TM 530 Black Dream is equipped with top-drawer suspensions ex works, since it is engineered for front-row performance, so Fugaroli’s task was a bit easier. The bike retains the Marzocchi forks and the Ohlins rear monoshock, the huge perimeter rotor and the radial brake pumps and braided lines.

Fugaroli also added his own touch to the engine, with a conical air filter, a Dynojet kit and custom distribution including FMW tappets and all. The exhaust line is also made in-house from stainless steel, and ends in an aftermarket carbon shorty silencer relocated near the rear wheel.

According to FMW’s own rating system, the TM 530 Black Dream has been modified 100% as far as the engine and riding stance are concerned, with the looks and bodywork changed 70 percent. Still street-legal, the TM 530 Black Dream surely looks like a bike we’d ride like we stole it. The new Black Nightmare moniker is entirely justified, if you ask us…
