Custom-Painted Horn$leth Ducati 1198 Sell Like Hot Cakes for $86,000 a Pop

Now, if you had several tens of thousands to buy a bike, what would you choose? You could get one or even two new Kawasakis, a Ninja H2 for road insanity, and a Ninja H2R for going crazy in the confinement of a closed circuit. Or, you can take one more step and get yourself a Horn$leth Ducati 1198 which will turn more heads than anything else. For “only” $86,000 (€69,000) a pop, for that’s what the £55,000 reads when converting Her Majesty’s money at today’s rate.

These bikes are the creation of modern artists going by the name Horn$leth, and believe it or not, the first run of 10 units is already gone, all sold via the online lifestyle and design outlet minimalhome. These first 10 1198 have gotten a slightly more macabre livery than the remaining nine “Super Crash”. The “Kill Me Fast” liveries have apparently been more to the liking of Ducati collectors than other custom jobs we met, and frankly, these guys have a good sense of humor.

"You don't feel anything as you hit the wall with 199mph”

This is exactly the fantastic, if grim answer Kristian von Hornsleth got from a salesman when he asked if riding a bike was dangerous. “It is precisely this blend of beauty, speed and death, which inspired me to include this 'scuplture' in my artistic work. The painted lines and forms interacts in a 'futilistic' attempt to investigate and challenge the given logic of the Ducatis design,” Horn$leth adds on minimalhome.

After the Kill Me Fast run was sold, it’s now time for the Super Crash to take center stage in the world of custom Ducati. Now, some might argue that for such money one could get a Superleggera, if we’re talking smashing (sic!) collectable Ducatis. Well, good luck in finding one, as the 500 Superleggera were sold as invite-only units and who was lucky enough to get one is most likely not going to be too willing to let it go.

Truth is that riding a Horn$leth bike is definitely not a thing for everyone, and we’re not talking about money here. The designs of both Kill Me Fast and Super Crash are a thing of either love or hate, most likely mixed with a hefty dose of “I couldn’t care less what you believe about the crazy livery of my bike”.

What makes me wonder is who will dare to take such a piece of modern art to the street, risking a dumb SMIDSY crash and wrecking it. Wonder whether insurance agents would go for this piece, or they will just add a clause that the deal is off if you take the Horn$leth out of the garage?
