When Reeves Callaway founded his engine design company in 1977, little did he know he’d become a highly successful tuner for everything with a golden bowtie badge up front. The Corvette Sledgehammer and the Callaway twin-turbo kit are arguably two of the biggest sellers, but the Callaway supercharger kit isn’t bad either, especially the GenThree update.
Starting this very week, all Callaway SportTrucks are enhanced with the all-new GenThree supercharger system. This update results in power increases from 540 horsepower to 560 horsepower and from 522 lb-ft (707 Nm) to 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque on 6.2-liter V8 Callaway Silverado full-size workhorses.

The 5.3 EcoTec V8-powered Callaway Silverados, Tahoes and Suburbans also get a small bump via the GenThree supercharger update, from 460 hp to 480 hp and from 455 lb-ft (616 Nm) to 477 lb-ft (646 Nm).

In addition to the small enhancement in get-up-and-go, the intercoolers of the GenThree promise to reduce inlet air temperature so efficiently that there is no heat soak related power loss during extended towing duties or hauling very heavy loads.

Despite the small extras that come with the blower update, the Callaway SportTruck pack’s price does not increase with the power, remaining at $17,395.

Originally developed for the 2014 Callaway Corvette SC627 (C7 Stingray), the third-generation GenThree is a new Callaway design. A notable component comes in the form of a 10-rib pulley that has been incorporated to prevent drive belt slippage.

Being a supercharger, increased airflow capability and reduced charge air temperature have been addressed as well with the GenThree. The intake manifold runner cross-section and length were tuned for a broad torque band while maintaining peak horsepower.

Eaton’s 2.3-liter TVS rotor pack was selected for its high adiabatic efficiency and reliability. Lastly, the company’s new triple-element intercooler is there to provide lower inlet charge air temperatures than it’s possible with run-of-the-mill single and dual element designs.
