Many Hellcat drivers have chosen to enjoy their muscle cars by taking them on roadtrips across the country. The latest story of this kind comes from a guy who has made efforts to be able to drive his 707 hp Challenger and now wants to share his experience with us.
The man has been on a roadtrip that took him just under 5,000 miles across the country and the photos documenting the adventure are simply memorable. This driver is in a wheelchair, which means he’s had hand controls installed to replace the pedals.
This has also required the Mopar enthusiasts to opt for the 8-Speed automatic. As the man explains on Reddit, this has been a major change compared to his other car, a 1986 Shelby GHLS.
Last time we checked, the 500 units of the GHLS, basically a modified Dodge Omni GLH, only came with a manual. But this guy explains his had a tree-speed automatic. So yes, we are talking about a Dodge fanatic here.
Most of the images were taken by his girlfriend, who seized just the right moments in their trip, stepping out of the car and shooting it.
The guy didn’t miss any opportunity to enjoy some quality time : ”At just under 5,000 miles over 15 days, we put the car to work. I averaged 21.2mpg in 707 mode for the entire trip, including climbing 3 summits over 12,000ft and a handful of dirt roads.”
And yes, that included climbing Pikes Peak on wet roads in this SRT-massaged tank. What else? Well, obeying the speed limits on the deserted roads of Northern New Mexico was also an important part of the menu.
And this guy also got to satisfy his thirst for all things Shelby, since the included a trip to the Shelby museum.
