Right after the golden bowtie automaker informed it sold over 1 million examples of the current-gen Spark, the city car is now the subject of a gigantic call back operation. No less than 223,815 examples of the Spark may suffer from a very peculiar glitch, similar to that of the US-spec 2013 MY Nissan Altima.
GM informs that the problem is minor and there haven't been reports of any crashed, injuried or worse as a result of this condition. As it happens, the previously mentioned population of cars suffer from a secondary hood latch striker that's prone to stick in the open position because of premature corrosion.
If the latch pivot corrodes, the secondary hood latch's striker may get stuck out of position, a condition that prevents the striker from shutting the bonnet properly. If the hood doesn't latch as intended, that might lead to the hood opening unexpectedly, which is a pretty dangerous situation especially if you're traveling at high speeds.
